Sauerkraut Bend

San Antonio's German influence dates to the early 1800's. Immigrants built their homes in the King William neighborhood along a bend in the San Antonio River - locally referred to as Sauerkraut Bend. The NIOSA version is set in the Villita Assembly Hall where air conditioned seating is available to enjoy the music, costumes and food featured in the Bavarian-themed area. A German oompah band performs as visitors take to the dance floor to dance the polka. Performances by energetics cloggers add to the entertainment. Here Sausage-on-a-Stick, Black Forest Cake, Hot Brezlyn and Bavarian Kreme are offered. Along with a Sausage Sampler - a variety of German sausages to tempt the palate.
