Mexican Market
Celebrating the city's cultural ties to Mexico, the atmosphere of a Mexican market is created in this area with colorful papel picado banners and Maguay plants adorned with paper flowers. It is the original area of NIOSA, now staged on the patio of the Villita Assembly Hall and along the front of the building along Villita Street. The famous Cascarones - confetti-filled eggshells - were first introduced to NIOSA in this area and remain a traditional favorite as visitors purchase them to crack over the heads of friends and family. Entertainment that includes: Latin rhythms.
Popular foods include the renowned Anticuchos ( marinated steak shish kebob), Chalupas, Quesadillas, Bean Tacos, Fajitas de Pollo, Tamales and Dulce. In keeping with the spirit of a true marketplace, a Tienda booth sells folk art from Mexico.
